How to Contact your Congressmen

Okay, I know.  The title of this blog is The Shepherd’s Presence.  I’ve been a bit “God and Country” here, but you know what?  Expect that to happen as Christians need exceptional vigilance in order to maintain our religious freedom here in America. It is no big revelation that Satan has never wanted Christian freedoms to thrive.  Satan hates God; therefore, Satan hate’s God’s children. We are God’s prized possession.  Therein lies the battle.

“Be sober.  Be vigilant, for your adversary the devil, prowls around, like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.” (I Peter 5:8 ESV)  If I walk, if you walk, in the guidance of the loving Shepherd’s view, you will be safe.  So, it is necessary, absolutely necessary, to stay close to the Shepherd through Bible reading, and conversation (prayer).

It is also going to be important in the coming weeks to let your Congressmen, and the White House, know what you expect.  After all, they are your representatives.  It is not difficult.  I’ve been doing this for some time, but was able to slack off because I had conservative representatives.  My representative the last few years has been a Christian.  Now, for the first time in many years I have a Senator who will not stand for life or religious freedom.

Since regular mail moves at the speed of snail, the government, with our tax dollars, has a secure web way to contact your congressmen.  These may help or help you get started.

The Supreme Court is not easily accessible.  I’m still working on that.  Those lifetime appointed officials live in some secluded realm.  They represent us too as the third branch of government.  If my readers know how to contact them, please let me know.  We can write to them via postal system and we can call and leave messages.  No e mail via web forms.

I’ve contacted the President many times and never, NEVER, had so much as a “thank you for contacting. . .”

Unlike us, those officials do not eat generic brand tomato soup.  They live high above us.  However, if they do not listen, we do have the power to remove them.  Except for the Supreme Court.  Why?

As a suggestion for starters:  Let John Boehner know that the Tea Party does exist!  I bet he already regrets having said that last week.

Please, always be respectful when contacting your government officials.  We are to act on all the principles of the Word of God including “in honor, preferring one another.” Romans 12:10  Keep your comment to one subject and don’t rant.  Be matter of fact.  Above all, be kind.  Please be kind.  Your words can “speak softly and carry a big stick.” (T. Roosevelt)

  1. Very good Post and excellent links for our elected officials!!! Thanks for the info, Take Care and God Bless 🙂 Kenny T

    • Thanks, Kenny T. It is also my hope that folks who search for how to contact a congress person will run into this along the way. It is interesting to me how some of those long ago posts turn up every now and then. I just want to be a help, like I know you are wanting also.

  2. For an interesting alternative, you can join citizens in nearly half the states and sign a petition asking President Obama to allow your state to peacefully secede from the Union. Of these, Texas has already raised well over the 25,000 signatures which require the White House to respond.

First Creat an Account (just name, zip, email) at wethepeople.com, then check All Petitions to see if your state is among them. If so, you can sign the existing petition. If not, you can start one.

    • I heard that on the news last night. TX has been considering that for a long time. Indiana, (my state) is on the list. I’m not sure that is the answer. Thinking.
